When recessions hit (read: now), smart job-seekers begin to wonder which industries are strong enough to weather the storm – that is, which industries are recession-proof. In theory, these industries will keep on growing and hiring people despite the hard times, making them a safe bet for job applicants.

I tell you, the job seeker, this because I want you to be informed of what goes on at the other end of the “submit resume” button. I also tell you this as a means of explaining why I have written a manifesto addressing these issues.

Here are some more resume mis-haps!: “I am loyal to my employer at all costs… Please feel free to respond to my resume on my office voice mail.”; “Instrumental in ruining entire operation for a Midwest chain store.”

Okay, if you have been searching for a job long enough chances are you will hear this dreaded phrase, “Sorry, but you’re overqualified for the position.”
